This colourful little trio is inspired by the beautiful robins that I have spotted surrounding my home, and the spiritual association that so many people have with them- “When robins appear, loved ones are near.” In our family the Robin Redbreasts in England are a little “hello” from our lost loved ones, and as well as this, Magnolia trees have a very special meaning to us thanks to my Grandad. So at the end of winter, when an ever curious little Rose Robin settled in a magnolia tree above me, while I planted bulbs in the garden, I knew immediately what one of my joyful Birdweek paintings would be.
It watched over me, gently hopping from branch to branch, gradually getting closer to me before it flew away. I’ve always found the cute little ‘Roses’ to be super curious creatures! They never fear me, and they always make me smile. The stunning Eastern Yellow Robins whenever I spot them, always appear to be on a mission, with a look of determination and quick movements. While the Scarlet Robin (which I’ve only spotted once!) was a vibrant flash of red orange, sat boldly in the tree one minute, and gone the next.
The Robins featured in my piece are the bolder coloured males. They may be tiny birds, but they never fail to make a big impression.
